the modern spelling.1758 [8th May] William acted as witness to the wedding of Thomas
RICHARDSON, husbandman, and Margaret DICKENSON at Goosnargh.1762 [6th September] William acted as witness to the wedding of Richard
THORNTON of Eccleston and Jenet HEYS of Inskip at Woodplumpton.1765 [3rd June] William acted as witness to the wedding of Hugh MOSS and
Jane BROWN, both of Woodplumpton at Woodplumpton. In the case of both the Woodplumpton weddings the couples were married by
licence, not by banns. The other witnesses were: 1762 John SUMNER &
Thomas WATSON; 1765 James SANDERSON. Both weddings were celebrated by
Matthew WORTHINGTON, curate at Woodplumpton. Almost certainly these were
the "official" Church of England weddings of Catholic couples who would
also have had a Catholic marriage ceremony elswhere, either shortly
before or immediately following.
